The Utah Stockdog Association was incorporated in 1997 as a non-profit Utah corporation with these goals and objectives:
- to promote the use of stockdogs as a valuable asset in the management of livestock; to help stockdog owners learn to use their dogs through the organization of clinics, demonstrations, fun days and working trials;
- to help make educational materials and stockdog supplies more available to its members;
- to promote only the selective breeding for superior working stockdogs, with demonstrated working ability, physical soundness, and sound temperaments.
